The eyes are the windows to your soul. They also happen to be one of the parts of your face that’s most susceptible to injury and damage. The reason for this is because they’re the most exposed organs next to the skin. There are many ways you can take care of your eyes, but most of us don’t take the extra step, especially when you have perfect vision. Sometimes, we do so much damage to our eyes that they end up catching up to us in our later years.
Here are some of the worst things you can do to your eyes that you need to stop or change immediately.
1. You don’t remove makeup.
Makeup gets into your eyes and stays there. Most makeups are composed of chemicals that don’t belong inside your eyes. If you don’t take them off before you go to sleep, they only end up in one place.
2. You don’t wear sunglasses.
Even your eyes get damage from the sun, and the only way you can protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays is if you wear sunglasses. Different sunglasses offer a different level of protection. The darker the glasses are, the better they’ll be for your eyes. Either way, it’s just good to start wearing them in the first place.
3. You don’t drink enough water.
More than half of your eyes are made up of water. It only makes sense to stay hydrated and drink enough to maintain your eyes’ health. If you feel like your eyes are too dry, you might be dehydrating them. This can be remedied by always consuming the proper amount of water for your body.
4. You don’t get enough sleep.
Sleep gives your body the rest it needs, and it also gives your eyes the repose it deserves after a full day of work. From the moment you wake up until you rest at night, your eyes are constantly working. It’ll be a good idea to close them from time to time to give them a break, but the best break your eyes can get is a full night’s sleep.
5. You don’t take out your contact lenses.
If you do wear contact lenses to correct your vision, you need to make sure you take them out to clean and soak them daily. Even with the more advanced lenses of today, you still need to give your eyes a break from having them on constantly. Protein builds up on contact lenses and the longer you keep them on, the worse it is for your eyes. It makes it difficult for your eyes to build when your lenses are too old. Use fresh lenses as often as you can, and the best way to keep your lenses fresh is by taking them off to soak.
