Hair is such an important part of someone’s look. This is the reason why so many people get attached to it and spend tons of money obsessively trying to make their hair look good. Many people devote a lot towards their hair—from salon hair treatments to hundreds of hair products. The goal is always the same: make the hair look good and make it look healthy. There’s another goal that eludes some people, and that’s to help hair grow faster. Some people’s hair just takes a little bit longer to grow and that could be due to several different factors. The good news is that there are ways that you could help stimulate your hair to grow. Here are six ways that you can grow your hair faster naturally.

1. Cut it more often

It might sound counterproductive, but there’s a reason why salon professionals recommend that you trim your hair every month. It’s similar to trimming plants in a way. When you trim a plant, you’re stimulating growth in the area that you’ve just trimmed. The same goes for hair. Frequent trimming simulates more growth. It’s just the way it is. When you don’t cut your hair for months on end, the dead part of your hair just continues to spread out. Trimming the ends frequently helps you maintain healthy hair and stimulates your roots to grow out some more.

2. Eat the right foods

You might have heard somewhere that beauty starts from within. There’s a lot of truth in that sentiment, and it’s true that can benefit you from head to toe. Many people think to forget that food affects the hair too, and the healthier you eat, the better your hair will look and feel. A healthy diet will affect the growth of your hair as well. Try eating foods rich in vitamin E, vitamin B, and biotin. Some examples include eggs, salmon, citrus fruits, avocado, and oysters.

3. Minimize the heat

We all know that heat damages the hair. The more heat you use, the more you abuse your hair. Sometimes it might be inevitable to use heat in styling, but if you can minimize it, you can benefit from a little more hair growth. If you have to use heat, make sure that you use heat protectants beforehand to give your hair just a little bit of protection. If you can figure out ways to style your hair with no heat at all, the better it will be for your hair’s overall health.

Shampoo your hair regularly.

4. Skip the daily shampoo

Shampoos are made to clean the scalp and hair. However, they could also strip your hair and scalp of its natural oils. Natural oils help to keep your scalp healthy, which is essential to the growth of the hair. By simply skipping the shampoo every day, you’re giving your scalp a better chance at hair growth. Most of the time, shampooing every other day will keep your hair healthy without being overly grimy. Shampooing every day just strips your hair too much of everything that’s essential.

5. Try a silk pillowcase

This is something that you’ve probably heard of before as well. Pillowcases matter too. Cotton pillowcases are often too rough on the hair, especially if you’re the type to roll around too much in your sleep. Silk pillowcases allow your hair to just glide instead of being caught and damaged. If you don’t have a silk pillowcase or just refuse to get one, try a silk wrap instead. They’re affordable, and they’ll help protect your hair from being damaged while you sleep. A simple wrap will also make your hair look better when you wake up in the morning.

6. Go easy on the brushing

This is especially important when your hair is wet because this is when it’s more susceptible to breakage. If your hair is too knotty after a shower, try using detangling brushes or even natural detangling products to help your hair untangle. Otherwise, you could just make sure that you brush your hair gently. Always start at the ends and work your way up. This way you’re not pulling your hair out too much as you brush and damaging the rest along the way.
